We have made a very temporary patch on the mufflers with several layers of aluminum tape so we could test ride the bike. While we had the swingarm loose for the transmission work we went ahead and serviced both the front and rear wheelbearings another specialized job needed on most older BMWs. We cleaned and inspected the clutch and installed a stronger more reliable rear pressure ring. the rear seat hinge needs replaced. Has Ignition â Keyâ / Light switch knob but does not have flat key to lock steering neck or seat. Needs battery and the rest of a Major Service. Starts easily runs well. 1973 BMW R75/5 SOLD!!..... We got this BMW in on a trade-in and don't have time immediately to give it the end-to-end deep service that we do on most BMWs that we sell. While we had it out we pulled the clutch and flywheel and installed a new rear main seal and oil pump oâ ring. Bike has a tool tray no tool kit. Since it takes special tools to fix the weak spring on the transmission shifter we went ahead and pulled the transmission opened it up cleaned and inspected fixed the shifter spring installed all new seals and resealed the back cover. Both original BMW Cigar shaped /5 mufflers are rotting out on the bottom. Because both tires were very old and cracked we mounted and balanced a newer set of used Metzeller tires while we had the wheels off the bike. Some oil leaks from pushrod tube seals on left should be fixed before extended miles. Running and rideable "Project Bike". We have rebuilt the carburetors tuned the motor and changed oil and filter on the motor and changed the gear oil on the transmission driveshaft and final drive. Blue paint rather faded on the tank. Now that we have fixed the things that required special tools or special skills and knowledge somebody mechanically handy should easily be able to get this bike to dependable travel-worthy condition. the rear of seat has tape patch; needs re-covered. We installed the BMW Factory recommended Ground Upgrade Harness for better charging and ignition. It has had the frame subframe swingarm centerstand headlight mount ears headlight bucket and front turn signal mounts powdercoated in gloss black. We picked out a nice low mileage used 4 speed transmission opened it up and inspected and resealed it and reinstalled it in the bike. He also somehow got 1972-73 style headlight mounts with the large 80mm reflector and the later style license plate bracket (also with the large reflectors) when he had the Powdercoating done. There are shallow imperfections on both items not immediately noticeable until the light hits it just right. New Tires were installed New Battery New original Continental braided cloth covered fuel lines 2 new BMW Mirrors New Grips New Footpeg Rubbers and other new small rubber pieces. http://picturepush.com/ zFpT Click on one of the thumbnail photos on the left to see it larger on the right. the engine frame and neck badge numbers all match. the Cosmetic restoration was started by one owner continued by the next owner and finally finished by us. While we were there we removed the clutch and cleaned up the friction disc and replaced the outer pressure plate with a resurfaced one. There is a nice OE Tool Tray with a new rubber seal and an Original BMW Factory Tool Kit. We chose to also leave those items like that. We finished with an end-to-end 10K Service and a 1000 mile test ride to be sure everything was PERFECT (alright it was just so nice that we just wanted to ride it for a while!). Also there is a small ding on the chrome headlight ring. We cleaned and re-jetted the carburetors back to stock. He chose to not re-use the stock aluminum trim or the stock 2 piece grab-rails; but we have corrected both issues. We also installed a new gasket to reseal the oil pan. Then scroll down to the bottom right and click on the word â Fullâ . Deep Major Service (10K) Cosmetic restoration. the previous owner had installed a 5 speed transmission instead of fixing the rumbling bearings on the stock 4 speed. We also took off the 2 into 1 header and installed nice used OEM headers and new OEM replica /5 â cigar tipâ style mufflers. We took over the project when the previous owner was stumped with properly replacing the electrical connections necessary after having the headlight bucket powdercoated and by the jetting / carburetor problems caused by dirty carburetors and the attempt to install a 2 into 1 header instead of replacing the exhaust system with a new original style system. While we were there we retrofitted fuse holders because BMW did not have them that year. 1971 BMW R75/5 SWB 976369 1971 BMW R75/5 SWB Only 13 000 Mi. We resealed the left cylinder as the pushrod tube seals were leaking; the right is in good condition. the clutch splines were also lubed at that point. We installed a new ignition switch and replaced the cracked circuit board with a good used one and straightened out the rewiring errors made by the previous owner. the Tank and front fender have been repainted and hand pinstripped as original. We installed a new improved reed style engine crankcase breather valve. It has just had a cosmetic restoration and deep service. the previous owner recovered the seat with a new stock style cover with passenger grab strap and he painted the seat pan. the flaws: Before Powdercoating the previous owner failed to have the metal perfect on 2 items the headlight bucket and the right headlight mount. Finally there are not any keys for the steering neck and seat locks. Additional cosmetic detail work was done to bring the bike up to an attractive whole...

Not Running â Project Bikeâ This 1971 BMW R75/5 is a not running â Project Bikeâ . Actual mileage unknown. There are no cracks in the fenders. the transmission shifts through all gears. the motor turns over clutch and brakes work kickstarter works there is a key for the seat lock there is a tool tray but no tools the choke mechanism works. 22 Ltr. the seat needs a cover the pan is good and solid but needs paint. There is a period luggage rack on the bike. the engine and frame numbers do not match; the motor is from a May of 1971 R75/5 the frame is February of 1970 the title is clear and says it is a 1971 model. Both wheels are straight and the front wheel spokes are fair but the rear spokes are rusty. the exhaust system is complete originals mufflers are solid somewhat rusty on the surface but no rust through. All 4 of the rare original aluminum body turn signals are on the bike. There are no dents in the shock covers. the bike is equipped with a luggage rack. the tank has some rust spots and the original liner is mostly gone but there are no dents and the cap is good. the aftermarket sidestand works. the original centerstand works but has a missing push-down tine. 1971 BMW R75/5 2976261 1971 BMW R75/5 Blue. the transmission shifts easily and properly. Then he decided to trade it in for a newer bigger faster BMW. Â Motorcycles Other. 2 year 750 Miles ago: New Paint & stripes on tank and both fenders. All the rubber parts are very good to excellent except the rider pegs and shift lever rubber. Pair 13 Rib boots New Euro bars Front brake switch w/rubber boot Upper brake and clutch cables boot Air filter. We repaired the broken Speedometer needle serviced the speedo & Tach. March 2015: under the owners instructions we installed New front wheel bearings and seals serviced the rear wheel bearings and did an Engine Tune with Oil & Filter. We also repaired the centerstand & sidestand pivots. â Humpbackâ tank. We also installed a Rebuilt bench seat with 1 piece grab-rail 1972-73 style. Then scroll down to the bottom right and click on the word â Fullâ . Installed a pair of quality Reproduction â Cigar tipâ /5 mufflers. It starts easily and runs smoothly. the previous owner neatly installed external retention springs in the chrome headlight ring because once the headlight insert was not installed properly and it popped loose while riding. We installed a good tested Used diode board and Used rotor to get the bike charging properly. the engine compression is good the leak-down is minimal and it doesnâ t smoke. 3 years 1350 mi: ago: 10K Service New front and rear Metzellers; mount & balance. 1 year 350 Miles ago. Another new Battery was also installed. We resealed the top end both cylinders. Since we resealed the top-end a year ago we have seen no oil leaks. There is a tool tray but no tool kit or tire pump. This bike has matching numbers frame motor and title. the front turn signals are black plastic instead of the original (expensive!) aluminum signal bodies. There is a chunk of fin missing from the left cylinder but it is not readily noticeable as it is below the larger head. the inside of the fuel tank has been relined with silver POR15 fuel tank liner; the job was performed perfectly. It has â Sâ handlebars and bar-end mirrors. We also cleaned and Detailed the bike to the 1st level (looks GREAT from 6 feet). We installed a new H4 Headlight bulb A pair used turn signals and a new Battery. the Ohio title is clear.

It is loaded with accessories and upgrades! Konis SS Exhaust 2970302 â 70 R75/5 LWB Convert Teal. It is fully serviced and ready to travel. the Kreem lining on the inside of the fuel tank was in poor conditioned so we removed it with acetone then acid etched the inside and re-lined it with POR15 for decades more of trouble free use. Then click on the larger photo on the right to see it in a full screen pop-up window. the paint is recent and of good quality. 10 K Service. the heads were decarboned and the valves were hand lapped for good sealing. the mileage is since the Long Wheel Base modifications were made. We replaced the rear main seal and oil pump Oâ ring and lubed the clutch splines. the Avon tires are in very good condition. the front fork has been improved with both a lower fork brace and a billet top triple clamp for significantly more stability. 1970 BMW R75/5 LWB SOLD..... We cleaned the carbs inspected and re-sealed the engine top end honed the cylinders and installed new rings. We performed the extensive BMW Factory recommended 10K Service plus much more. 2970302 â 70 R75/5 LWB Convert Teal. Overall the bike is bright and shinny and clean. Then scroll down to the bottom right and click on the word â Fullâ . the clutch assembly was upgraded to the more robust /6 style. 10 K Service. Koni Shocks were installed. the front points seal was also replaced. A /6 subframe was used and the improved /7 driveshaft / swingarm was chosen to stretch out the wheelbase. the mid size 750cc motor will get superior fuel mileage and smoother running than the larger size motors and still has plenty of horsepower to get 2 people and camping gear up to safe merging speed by the end of a short on ramp or to pass a truck quickly on a two lane by running it up to 80mph . We do not know the actual mileage but believe it to be in the 50 000-60 000 Mile range. It would be totally at home either on a remote two lane blacktop or on the Super Slab. New Continental braided cloth covered fuel lines were installed. This BMW was originally a short wheel base bike. A Boyer Electronic ignition has been installed. the tires are in very good condition. the transmission was opened up inspected and resealed also. Because there is now more room the battery box was converted to the /6 box to hold the larger battery...

We did notice a few things that we wanted to address in an effort to make it PERFECT and as ORIGINAL as it came from the factory;. the front disc was a 1975 on drilled disc; we planned to put an original 1974 disc back on it. the wheel spokes have been re-done with stainless (weâ ll leave them as they are). the FIRST off the line. This is Serial #4910001! This is the FIRST US R75/6 off the line in the FIRST year of production for the /6 Series!!!!! Fresh 10K Service. 1974 BMW R75/6 SOLD.... the previous owner had a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration done five or six years ago and hasnâ t ridden it much since. None of this was really NECESSARY as only an expert would know the difference but we felt that the historic significance of this bike warranted making it perfect. Then click on the larger photo on the right to see it in a full screen pop-up window. the drilled front disc has been exchanged for the correct 1974 only non-drilled disc. the Dyna III ignition is a good upgrade; weâ ll leave it but move the main unit out of site to the frame backbone. the horn was functional but was not the correct one with black body and chrome disc in front. the seat was a SWB (short wheelbase) and needed to be exchanged for a LWB (long wheelbase) seat. Only 627 Miles! 1974 R75/6. It was already equipped with an aftermarket Brown style sidestand (we like these a lot as they are much more functional than the original stand). It didnâ t really NEED service but we wanted to know that we had addressed everything and that nothing was missed. â 74 R75/6 Black. the bike comes with the original tool kit hand pump and Ownerâ s Manual. the bike had Incorrect hand grips and the centerstand tine was missing. the engine and frame numbers match. the hand controls needed to be refinished and some of the cable boots were needing to be replaced. We also performed the BMW Factory recommended 10K Service on the bike; a comprehensive end to end inspection service and adjustment. http://picturepush.com/ sqE2 Click on one of the thumbnail photos on the left to see it larger on the right. When we first got this bike in on a Trade-in we knew that it was very special and wanted it to be as perfect as possible when we were finished preparing it for sale. We also addressed all the other small stuff mentioned above as well as several other small details previously unnoticed. Then scroll down to the bottom right and click on the word â Fullâ . Unseen is the Progressive Suspension front progressively wound fork springs to improve road irregularity responses and lessen diving under hard braking. the new owner wanted an upgraded suspension so we installed a new pair of Progressive 1200 Series rear shocks and installed the original polished aluminum covers on them so that they look very similar to original. We built a new LWB seat using all new parts on an original 1974 metal pan and is now the correct length. the centerstand has had the tine replaced and has been repainted. the handlebars have been exchanged for proper USA type bars and the hand controls have been refinished and correct hand grips installed. It is very close to what a new 1974 R75/6 would have been like when picked up from a Dealer; a truly wonderful machine to ride! However reality and other necessary work interfered so we only got to add 50 miles on the odometer. We wanted to go ride this bike for days when it was finished. In the mean time the seat that is on it is VERY nice and rides perfectly. the bike is ready to ride until the next Major Service interval (5000 Miles) with only a couple of periodic oil and filter changes in between. After we finished building the bike we put an initial 650 Break-in Miles on the bike then did a fluids change engine re-torque and tune up and an end-to-end inspection adjustments and retightening.

Since it takes special tools to fix the weak spring on the transmission shifter we went ahead and pulled the transmission opened it up cleaned and inspected fixed the shifter spring installed all new seals and resealed the back cover. Has Ignition â Keyâ / Light switch knob but does not have flat key to lock steering neck or seat. Running "Project Bike" 2991926 1973 R75/5 SWB "Toaster" Tank

We installed a new ignition switch and replaced the cracked circuit board with a good used one and straightened out the rewiring errors made by the previous owner. We installed the BMW Factory recommended Ground Upgrade Harness for better charging and ignition. We took over the project when the previous owner was stumped with properly replacing the electrical connections necessary after having the headlight bucket powdercoated and by the jetting / carburetor problems caused by dirty carburetors and the attempt to install a 2 into 1 header instead of replacing the exhaust system with a new original style system

This relatively hard to find 1973 Â BMW R75/5 Long Wheel Base model is also a â Toaster Tankâ model with chrome panels both on the fuel tank and as battery covers. The body paint is original silver and is bright and shinny but has a patina of use; there are light scratches on the front fender and the tank and a small ding above the left emblem just past the edge of the chrome panel

After we finished building the bike we put an initial 650 Break-in Miles on the bike then did a fluids change engine re-torque and tune up and an end-to-end inspection adjustments and retightening. Those eagle eye detail freaks out there will probably whine â but the seat is not correctâ . In the mean time the seat that is on it is VERY nice and rides perfectly
